In this episode of the Apple Universe Podcast, Daniel reviews 2 great products:

Beats by Dr. Dre produced by Monster:

The good: The Beats by Dr. Dre headphones offer a stylish and comfortable design as well as crisp audio. Sound quality is balanced, with a great thumping bass. Included are a nice carrying case and all cables, and adapters.

The bad: The Monster Beats by Dr. Dre headphones cannot be used without batteries. Glossy black design is very smudge-prone. Right ear-cup rattles occasionally while you walk.

Daniel’s rating: 4.5 out of 5

Purchase: Apple | Best Buy | Amazon | Monster

CORRECTION: I apologize for mistaking Dr. Dre and 2Pac during the show.

Card Scan Executive for Mac

The US $259.99 package includes the small (3.5″ x 6.4″ x 1.6″) scanner, a CD-ROM with Mac and Windows versions of CardScan’s contact management software, and a USB cable. What? No power brick? Nope — it’s bus-powered so you can eliminate one more power plug. The scanner worked fine for me plugged into a USB 2.0 hub.

If you handle a lot of business cards in your daily life, CardScan Executive for Mac is a must-have. It speeds up entry of business card data into your electronic systems and works very welll for a first Mac release.

Daniel’s Rating: 5 out of 5

According to numerous Apple-themed sites, including MacRumors, Gizmodo, ArsTechnica and Kevin Rose are reporting that on September 9, Apple will hold an event to announce some new products. MacRumors is reporting saying that upcoming 4th Gen iPod Nano’s and 2nd Generation iPod Touch’s and iTunes 8 will be announced.

There also has been a new post reporting that the iPod Nano and iPod touch are expected to see revisions, and long standing MacBook and MacBook Pro rumors point to revised case designs (MacBook, MacBook Pro) that adopt an aluminum/tapered look.

Whether or not this is true is unknown, but we will be keeping up-to date following MacRumors, AppleInsider, and other sites.

UPDATE: Apple is scheduled to have a media event, called “Let’s Rock,” on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. For SMS coverage, head over to MacRumors.
